Welcome to year one!

Year One children have settled into their new classes - they have obviously grown up a lot during the summer holidays. This term we are learning all about ourselves and so far we have sung songs about the parts of our bodies and enjoyed lots of activities using the five senses. We are looking forward to seeing the animals from Wellgate Farm, going to St. Paul's Church for Harvest and a drama morning with an expert from the drama centre.
We're sure that the children agree that year one is great!

Fairy tale rooms

The children in Year One were set the homework task of designing a room for a fairytale character. There was a great variety: the Three Bears' Cottage, Cinderella's bedroom, Little Red Hen's kitchen and many more. As part of their design and technology lessons, they then worked in pairs to create the rooms using recycled materials and fabrics. They are very proud of their work, as these photos show!

DT - 1H's fun day of making a castle.

As part of our topic this term 'Houses and Homes' we have been looking at houses over time. In DT, we decided to make a type of house and we focused mainly on making a castle.

First, together with our parents, we brought in lots of different boxes from home to use as parts of our castles. We brought in old cornflake boxes, washing powder boxes, toilet/kitchen rolls and many other various boxes - IT WAS VERY TIRING!!!

Then our teacher planned and dedicate an entire day to making our castles. This meant that we spent the morning and after lunch making our castles - YIPPEE!!!

Also, our parents came into school to help us with the sticking and the painting. It was a really fun day and our castles were fantastic. Some of us even made drawbridges for our castles!!!

Thank you for looking at our work and we hope that you enjoy looking at our work as we much as enjoyed making the castles!!!

P.s. Please feel free to leave a comment about our work.

Patterns in Year 1

In Numeracy in Year 1, we have been looking at patterns and sequences.

One of our lessons was to create our own patterns. Some of us were given counting cubes and coloured shapes, while the rest of us had to draw our own patterns in our maths books.

It was really fun, especially for the children who used the counting cubes and coloured shapes.

We all hope that you enjoy our work on patterns.

Thank you for reading.
