Year One are crazy about minibeasts!

This term we have been learning all about minibeasts. We have become fantastic investigators, finding facts about how they move, eat and protect themselves. Each class went to the environmental garden and observed the minibeasts in action. We then took a class vote deciding which minibeast was our favourite. We chose spiders, ladybirds, butterflies, bumblebees and snails.

Then we put all we had learnt to the test! We made a book about our favourite minibeast including lots of interesting facts. When we came to school on Friday 24th June our class had been transformed into a garden. We were no longer children....we were minibeasts.

We spent the day in character doing many activities including drawing our habitat and learning a song and a new dance. Then in our minibeast groups we acted out what might happen in our day.

We then wrote our own minibeast diary: 'A day in the life of...'.

What a busy day!

Kung Hei Fat Choy! Happy New Year!

During the first week of February, the Chinese New Year began. 1D joined in with the celebrations for a whole day. We watched videos showing how they celebrate and read the story of how each year is named after an animal. We found out that all the children in the class who are 6 in 2011 were born in the year of the Rooster and the chidlren who turned 6 in 2010 were born in the year of the Monkey!

We wrote our animal name using chinese symbols. We also made dragon masks, paper lanterns and rugs. It was a lot of fun!

At the end of the day we wore traditional Chinese clothing and took pictures of all the things we had made. As a special treat Miss Man gave us all a fortune cookie to take home.
What a busy day in class 1D!

1M in the computer suite

The children in 1M certainly look as if they are enjoying themselves in the computer room.
They have learnt a lot this school year during their sessions in the ICT suite. They have produced some beautiful artwork using the painting programs, developed their keyboard skills and used a range of programs to help them with numeracy and literacy. Of course, they are having such fun that they don't always realise they are learning all the time!
